A bird in the hand is the first book by Swiss photographer Mathilda Olmi.
This series partly takes up the research carried out by Mathilda during her stay in New York to assist photographer Christian Patterson.

Faced with the density and chaos of New York, Mathilda focuses on ordinary details and scenes of neighborhood life. If the subject seems banal in appearance, the intensity of the images lies in their juxtaposition, in the choice of perspectives and framing and a game of off-screen, lights, materials and colours. The images echo, confront or respond to each other, thus offering an open narrative from which a poetic force emerges.
"A bird in the hand", literally, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", evokes this idea of the present moment, that which must be preciously picked.
