Please join us for an evening with Athens based journalist and photographer Eirini Vourloumis who is presenting her monograph In Waiting, published by Hatje Cantz.
From 18.30 Eirini will be in conversation in our Cafe with London based journalist Maria Margaronis and Dr. Marta Weiss, curator in the Word and Image Department at the V&A Museum who has strong links to the Greek capital. The Talk will be followed by a Book Signing in the Bookshop.
In Waiting is an examination of the city of Athens and its role as a physical stage for the economic crisis. Greece has moved towards change through turmoil and demonstrations, but it also has a silent life, an everyday responsibility, that is becoming increasingly hard to deal with. It is an exploration of the interiors of government buildings, institutions, and schools, to look into how these settings reflect modern Greek culture and character. Through them Eirini Vourloumis has captured a widespread, tangible reluctance and hesitation, showing elements of Athens and its society that may disappear as Greece moves towards change, for better or worse.
