Łukasz Rusznica: Subterranean River. Book Launch & Signing, Thu 28 Jun, 18.00 - 20.00

Please join us in the Bookshop and meet photographer Łukasz Rusznica who is presenting his new photobook Subterranean River, published by Palm*.

On his Japanese journey, Łukasz Rusznica chose spirits and other supernatural creatures as his guides. He asked them for helping mapping a new territory, and appears to have received an additional gift: a discovery about oneself and one’s own background, which seems to be the actual journey here: a more significant one than conquering purely physical distance. Along with the evolution of societies, rising unpredictability, mobility and dependence on technologies, the folk spirituality evolves into lived spirituality – one which may appear unorthodox, but relies on direct experience and presence of the divine element in common surroundings.(From the accompanying text by Olga Drenda)

Łukasz Rusznica is a Polish photographer and curator. He graduated from Cultural Studies of the University of Wrocław. He is an author of a few photobooks i.e. Near, Infra, European Eyes on Japan vol. 18, The Most Important I Do Not Tell You At All, an intimate and strong queer book designed by Thomas Schostock. He is a winner of the ShowOFF section of the Krakow Photomonth Festival in 2012 and the WARTO 2015 Award. In 2016 he was selected to take part in European Eyes on Japan. In 2017 he was a winner of best portfolio in Krakow Photomonth Festival. His book Subterranean River was shortlisted on Unseen Dummy Award 2017.
