Shirley Baker Publications Presentation. Thu 1 Nov, 18.00 - 20.00

Please join us in the Bookshop and the Print Sales Gallery to celebrate the work of the late British photographer Shirley Baker. On the night the Bookshop is presenting 4 brand new publications on Shirley Baker, the Print Sales Gallery will display prints by the artist.

East London based publisher Hoxton Mini Press is presenting their newest title Shirley Baker: Dog Show 1961-1978, the 3rd book of their series Vintage Britain. It captures the quirkiness of owners and their canine companions at one of the most quintessentially British events:  the dog show.

Also this autumn, The History Press in Stroud has released a monograph about Shirley Baker, shot in 1960s Manchester and Salford: Without a Trace. As Shirley had described her project: "Whole streets were disappearing and I hoped to capture some trace of everyday life of the people who lived there. I was particularly interested in the more mundane, even trivial aspects of life that were not being recorded by anyone else."

Just in time the publisher Craig Atkinson from Caferoyalbooks has also finished 2 more volumes on Shirley Baker, Punks 1980s and British Seaside 1960-1970.

Shirley Baker was one of Britain's most compelling yet underexposed social documentary photographers. She was subject of a retrospective at The Photographers' Gallery in 2015, and a selection of her photographs was shown in our Print Sales Gallery in earlier this year.

Thu 1 Nov, 18.00 - 20.00, Bookshop and Print Sales Gallery.
