Bunshri Chandaria: Silent Voice
Bunshri Chandaria: Silent Voice
There are 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK. By 2025 the condition will affect a million people – the majority will have Alzheimer’s.
These are more than just numbers for Bunshri Chandaria. The photographer and filmmaker witnessed the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s through the eyes of her mother-in-law, Ramaba and decided to make that experience count.
Bunshri felt a deep need to give Ramaba a voice, wanting people to understand her new world and to be at ease with that.
Silent Voice reveals the serendipity moment – the trigger for Ramaba’s deeply embedded memories, untold stories. Through Bunshri’s enigmatic images, her mother-in-law’s spoken words and the footnotes we begin to get a sense of Ramaba’s Alzheimer’s condition.
Being awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society has prompted Bunshri to introduce Silent Voice to a wider audience. All the profits of the publication go to Alzheimer’s Research.
