A body of work resulting from long-term engagement with contemporary Egypt and inspired by the themes of British post-colonial legacy and neoliberalism.

Executed in Alexandria, Aswan, Cairo, Luxor, and the Sinai region, RESONANCE delves into how lens-based narratives can establish new visual parameters, redefining conflict and aftermath photography in a manner that resonates with the aftermath of the Arab Spring in 2011.

RESONANCE aims to shed light on the lasting impacts of colonialism and the neoliberal economic system on Egypt’s socio-political fabric. The project acts as a platform that extends beyond its original context, fostering reflection and nurturing critical skills within the global socio-political and economic climate marked by uncertainty and complexity.

Through the lens of Fortas’ work, viewers are invited to reflect on the interplay between historical legacies, contemporary realities, the potential for transformation and collective introspection.
