Jamie Morgan: Buffalo 1985

Buffalo was the name that Jamie Morgan, the photographer, and Ray Petri, the stylist, gave to their improvised and ad hoc studio. Buffalo would become a phenomenon, defining, almost indefinitely, the look and feel and attitude of 80s in fashion photography and style.

The year when it all came together was 1985.The photographs are by Jamie Morgan, but they were made by Jamie and Ray, who passed away at the end of the 80s. The wider team of course includes Neville Brody; he designed1985; it couldn’t be anyone else. Felix Howard has his face on the cover just as he did on The Face magazine. In the 80s, Buffalo became a family: Nick and Barry Kamen, Neneh Cherry, Talisa Soto, James Lebon, Mitzi Lorenz and co. Naomi Campbell was a Buffalo girl. She and Kate Moss were 15 and 14, respectively, when they were discovered. Felix Howard was even younger! They were different times. They were Buffalo times.
