one bed, two blankets, seventy-six rules
One bed, two blankets is the first collaboration between artist couple Sabine Hess and Nicolas Polli, the result of a period spent in the Verzasca Valley. After two years of a long-distance relationship, this sort of artist residency served the two to test the idea of living together for the first time, returning to the place where it all began.
In the course of the sequence, the two authors play with the norms and ideas surrounding their perception of ‘relationship’, allowing themselves the freedom to lay themselves bare, interweaving images of the landscape around them with self-portraits that see them engaged in various forms of performance.
The photographs are interwoven with short annotations and reflections on life as a couple, which contribute to the narrative with a touch of irony.
"Over two years ago, we met each other in a remote Valley in Switzerland. We shared conversations, shy smiles, 1chf beers in the late evening, and even what afterward would be the first of a long list of kisses. It was a coincidence we met. But it was also supported by an environment that could only make two people get to know and eventually love each other. Living in two different countries, this place gave us a platform for exchange and community. With a slight hangover - we drove home together the day after and never left each other since. Although physically living in two different places, we managed to keep the initial connection found there. This summer, two years later, we decided to move together - or at least to give it a try"
